Pelvic Organ Prolapse

Pelvic organ prolapse, which includes the uterus, urine bladder, intestines, and/or rectum, refers to the descent or protrusion of these pelvic organs through the vaginal walls or, in the case of the rectum, when a portion of it slides out of the anus. This uncomfortable state is related to the “hammock” that shelters these organs. Specifically, the pelvic floor muscles are unable to sustain them, or the peritoneum fascia is weak, resulting in the same outcome. Why is this happening? The causes vary, but many of them can be addressed by physical therapy and pelvic floor muscle strengthening.
